Accutane Alternatives

March 18, 2006
By

Tweet I remember both my cousin and I, who were only two years apart in age, each suffering through adolescence with fairly severe acne problems, dreamt of a day when we’d find a miracle cure for a smooth and beautiful complexion. I, on one hand, had been on everything from Retin-A to Tetracycline and Erythromycin for my acne. She had also been prescribed these drugs and even additional topical treatments which would work for a little while, but then become ineffective. That was fifteen years ago. At this time, there were no serious and effective alternatives (see our product...

Benzoyl Peroxide

March 17, 2006
By

Tweet Benzoyl peroxide is probably the most common acne fighting ingredient found in over the counter topical gels, creams and face washes. This chemical mixture can be fairly effective topically in treating very mild acne in my opinion, but it just doesn’t cut it for more severe acne that is usually related to hormonal imbalances or high stress levels. This more severe and “deeply rooted” cystic-type acne is much more stubborn and usually requires a more agressive oral treatment aimed at calming hormones and cleansing the skin from this inside, so to speak. Benzoyl peroxide is a solution that...

Natural SkinCare – What are the Benefits?

March 16, 2006
By

Tweet Natural skincare products are getting more and more popular these days. And with good reason. With an increasingly health and environment-conscious niche of women (and some men), interested in keeping their skin as healthy, fresh and vibrant as possible, natural skincare products are gaining the upper hand over traditional cleansers, lotions, creams and toners. Advantages of natural acne skin care products include gentleness, non-irritating ingredients, and many times, more potent and active ingredients that are really going to make a difference in the look and feel of your skin. Our ancestors used these ingredients to cleanse and purify...

Vitamin E for Acne – Oral Supplementation

March 14, 2006
By

Tweet Vitamin E has been getting a lot of attention lately for the treatment of acne and acne scarring. So, what prompted this new skin fad? Are there really merits to taking vitamin E for the treatment of acne? And what dosages should you take to ensure good results? First of all, you should know, vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin, which means it actually stores in your body if it is taken in excess amounts, so it is important not to take too much and “overdose”, as you will not expel it like you would water soluble...

Acne Scarring Low Light Laser

March 12, 2006
By

Tweet Well I just received my low light laser in the mail, and used it for the first time yesterday on my acne problem areas and the areas around my eyes that I am concerned with aging. Here are my observations about this product: 1. It was convenient since it is small and light. 2. The treatment time can be a little monotenous since it is six minutes of holding what looks like a laser pointer up to your face. Six minutes is the recommended duration of time to use for wrinkles and deeper acne scarring, so I wanted...

Body Acne – What’s Your Best Defense?

March 11, 2006
By

Tweet Body acne is one of the most prevalent and embarassing acne problems that exists for many men and women in today’s society. While it may not be as visible as facial acne, it certainly does make you want to “cover up” in the summer months, and be less carefree about what you wear. One of the biggest offenses against your skin that perpetuates bodily acne breakouts is wearing too heavy of clothing when the weather is warm. Overheating and excess sweat and oil production can trigger back acne, chest acne and even neck acne in the blink of...

More on DMAE for Acne

March 10, 2006
By

Tweet Ok, so I am convinced that DMAE has helped my acne and scarring. I stopped using the cream for a few days and what do you know, my small bump-like acne came back on my chin. I applies a thin layer last night and woke up this morning – it has once again diminished my smaller acne bumps. Coincidence? I think not. I also still believe that this supplement may be very beneficial when taken as an oral supplement for acne healing and diminishing of acne blemishes. It has been widely written about as a potent anti-aging supplement...

Facial Masks for Acne Prone Skin

March 9, 2006
By

Tweet Facial masks can be a great “home facial” for your skin. Not only can they help tighten pores and remove impurities and excess sebum, they leave your skin feeling smooth and looking more even and toned. For acne prone skin, I would recommend a clay-based mask which specifies on it’s label that it is formulated for oily or combination skin. My favorites are the (name brand name removed per the company’s request) refining mask and Mary Kay Facial Mask for oily skin.  See the Acne product review page for more suggestions. Be sure when using a mask to...

Thinking DMAE May be Good for Acne Topically

March 8, 2006
By

Tweet Since I’m 30 years old, I have started using some fairly concentrated anti-aging creams. Once of the creams I use at night is a high potency DMAE cream. DMAE is actually a chemical compound found naturally in the skin of salmon at very concentrated levels, and has gained a lot of attention in recent years for skin firming and antiaging benefits. I happened to use it on my normal problem areas for acne and voila I haven’t broken out at all, and my skin seems to be smoothing out as well – coincidence? I don’t know. I guess...

Foods that Can Aggravate Acne

March 6, 2006
By

Tweet Did you know that overweight people may be more likely to have acne? This is due to an increased insulin production which can then signal the body to release extra male hormones, or androgens, which are directly responsible for the forming of acne pustules. Not only that, but overweight people will usually tend to have a diet abundant with foods that tend to aggravate acne in many people. What are these foods that aggravate acne? 1. Excessive sugar 2. Excessive trans fats (processed, nutrient free fats like the type found in potato chips, processed snacks and other nutritionally...
