Acne Hitting More People in Midlife Now

April 20, 2006
By

Tweet I read an interesting article recently about how the occurrence of acne in people in midlife – meaning late forties and fifties, is increasing at a noticeable rate.  While we may think that this is easily treatable, adult acne is a little trickier, because you are dealing with aging skin that is a little thinner and not as “tough” against the common acne treatments that tend to dry out the skin, as commonly used by teens, the most affected age group when it comes to acne.  And it’s not just treating the acne itself that becomes a harder...

Microdermabrasion After Effects

April 19, 2006
By

Tweet Just so you know, if you ever decide to have micodermabrasion professionally done at a salon, spa or other accredited facility, know that your face will look worse before it looks better.  What do I mean?  Well, take my skin for example, two days after the first microderm treatment, and my scars look redder and more pitted than they did before. But, of course this will get better with time.  I have to say, I did not notice my skin looking much worse for a few days with the home micrdoerm kits, maybe only for a few hours. ...

Noncomedogenic Self Tanner for Acne : L’Oreal Sublime

April 18, 2006
By

Tweet The verdict is in on whether L’Oreal’s Sublime bronzer and self tanner is ok to use for acne prone skin.  Yes.  I’ve used it successfully now two nights in a row without incident.  Not only that, it’s a nice cover up for old acne scars and flaws that are still left in my skin.  I’ve gotten lots of compliments on my skin – I actually do every time I self tan, so I think that’s why I’ve become so addicted to self tanning! As long as you chose a formula free of irritants to your skin, you should...

Microdermabrasion Appointment

April 17, 2006
By

Tweet Ok, so I broke down and scheduled a series of microdermabrasin appointments after my disappointing findings about the thermage procedure.  Along with my home microdermabrasion kits, I think this series will add what I’m looking for as far as quick results for the acne scarring on my chin as well as the forming crows feet around my eyes.  The appointment went fine, my face is still a little irritated today and red, and my skin actually looks worse (which they say is normal for the first few days), but all in all dare I say I think I...

Cancelling my Thermage Consultation

April 16, 2006
By

Tweet So I felt I owed it to you to let you know I’m cancelling my Thermage consultation, after being scared off by an exponentially larger amount of bad (very bad) reviews of the procedure as compared to good reviews and results. I did an internet search on reviews of the procedure – ie did people like their results, was it painful, were there any negative side effects – and boy, did I find a slew of very bad information and negative reviews on this procedure. I have to say, to give it the benefit of the doubt, usually...

More on Thermage and Acne Scarring

April 15, 2006
By

Tweet As an added side note to my previous post, I did also read that Thermage may not be the best method to treat acne scarring if you’re going the medical route, microdermabrasion or it’s more serious “sister” treatment dermabrasion, which blasts away a little more of the skin surface than microderm, is actually recommended over Thermage for acne scarring by most skin care professionals, aestheticians and dermatologists. Thermage is actually more of a therapy for tightening wrinkles and increasing collagen production.

Is Clear Skin and Acne Prone Skin Genetic?

April 14, 2006
By

Tweet Most people with acne have this thought at least once in their life – is clear skin, or acne prone skin all genetic, or is it more of something that we can control? Well, here’s my opinion : It is definitely genetic, in that you can be more genetically predisposed to getting or having acne at any time in your life, simply because someone in your family had it. For me, it’s my aunt and my cousin on my mom’s side. My aunt, my cousin’s mother, struggled with acne throughout her whole teenage life and even on through...

Sorry!

April 13, 2006
By

Tweet I just had to write a quick post to someone (I don’t know her name).  I accidentally deleted her comment from this site, so was unable to answer her directly.  She asked if I had my consultation yet for Thermage.  Just to recap, I canceled my consultation appointment for this procedure.  I’ve heard some horror stories – too many for me to even think about going through with the procedure.  It’s just not worth it.  Here is a link to where I got a lot of bad reviews on Thermage : SmartSkinCare.com.  I won’t be going to my...

Chemical Mini Peels for acne – Product review

April 13, 2006
By

Tweet I was reading a lot of VERY positive reviews of the microdermabrasion and mini glycolic peel combination kit by Oil of Olay. More specifically, it’s calle the Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion and Peel system. These home mircodermabrasion systems are interesting to me, so I went out and searched for some reviews of the more common systems out there, and the Olay system came up as very postively reviewed, as well as the Neutrogena system. Most people had comments like “I can’t live without this system” “It feels like a facial” and “It’s faded my acne scars to almost nothing”,...

Home Peels for Acne?

April 12, 2006
By

Tweet I’ve been seeing a new crop of home chemical peels coming out in the department stores and drug stores lately.  I did a little investigating, and found that these peels may not be so effective, due to their mandatory weakness.  You see, only dermatologists are allowed to use the peels that really make a big difference in your skin, because they are more concentrated with the acids and chemicals that reveal a new layer of skin.  I bought one of these peels and was less than impressed.  I’m thinking maybe there’s a better version somewhere online (there usually...
