Differin Acne Products Get Mixed Reviews

Posted in Acne Product Reviews by Clear Skin Consultant on the July 15th, 2006

Reviews of a fairly popular and well known prescription topical acne medication called Differin seem to be widely mixed. Differin is a dermatologist prescribed topical acne treatment formula that comes in either a gel or a cream. It claims to be gentle to your skin, and yet effectively treat acne lesions as well as prevent new ones from forming.

The gel is an odor free topical gel which is also free of oil and alcohol, which is an obvious plus. The idea is that the gel or cream gets down deep into the pores and helps to control the causes of sebum buildup and clogged pores which are the main cause of acne formation.

The makers of the Differin acne line do warn that in the first few weeks of treatment, itching, dryness, redness, burning or peeling can occur in some users, especially those with more sensitive or dry or combination skin. The cream works the same as the gel, but is generally prescribed for patients with drier or more sensitive skin, since creams are generally not as drying or irritating to the skin, and also have a more “emollient” adn protective quality.

Reviews I’ve found on this prescribed acne treatment are pretty much all over the board. Some people say they’ve been using it for months with no difference, and some say that it has worked pretty well and helped take away redness, while others complain that it made their skin completely red, dry, irritated and looking worse.

Out of the reviews I found, I’d say they were almost 50/50, except there may have been a TAD bit more bad reviews than good on the Differin products. By the way, the active ingredient in the Differin acne products is adapalene.
