Facial Steaming Not Good for Acne?

I ran a piece about how to steam your face, yourself, in your own home, rather than going to a salon and getting a professional facial, and then I ran across an interesting piece of information on steaming the face and the effect it may have on your skin if you have acne problems.

It said that excessive facial steaming may actually leave people with acne prone skin more prone to breaking out.  Why?  Because the steaming action may actually swell the skin’s top layer, which can trap oil, dirt and  bacteria in the pores and cause acne postules to form.  It can also cause inflammation.

The key here, I think, is that if you do not overdo it and steam your face for too long, you really have nothing to worry about as far as making the outer dermis layer of your face a swollen breeding ground for inflamed pores.

Inflammation is one of the key causes of acne, and as long as you steam your face at the proper temperature (you’ll know if it’s too hot – it will be uncomfortable), at the proper distance, and only for 30 seconds to a minute instead of minutes at a time, you will actually still benefit your skin and help to clear acne rather than lend it a hand in forming more acne.

Remember to check out the other post on how to steam your face, which should be linked here at the bottom!
