What is Chloracne?

Do you remember the huge news story from the Ukraine, where a politician who was running for government in a heated battle against his opponent was poisoned with dioxin?

The man, who’s name is Viktor Yushchenko , was almost certainly poisoned by someone with ill intentions on his opposing political party, the poison most likely being added to his food somehow.

The before and after pictures of Yushchenko are absolutely shocking. You see, large amounts of the poisonous material dioxin, which is a toxic byproduct of chemical processes, causes a skin condition, amongst other life threatening conditions, called chloracne, which is another offshoot of the acne we always talk about here.

Chloracne is a severely disfiguring skin condition that causes a mottled complexion as well as sever pock marking. Yushchenko was virtually unrecognizable in the after pictures, and his once handsome face is scarred probably for life, although the effects of chloracne supposedly wear off in about 3 years.

Officials said his was probably the worst case of dioxin poisoning they had ever seen or that had ever at least been documented. Yushchenko adamantly accused Ukrainian authorities of orchestrating the poisoning, which they still have vehemently denied.

All I know is this poor man has had to battle with various debilitating illnesses as well as a severely damaged face, although he has said he is still able to function and perform his political duties. I never did hear if he “won” whatever elected office he was going for. Hopefully he did, to pay them back, to say the least.
