I am 12 years old and have very bad acne on my face, shoulders and chest. Have got a cream from the Dr but it dries my face up and looks worse. The main problem areas are my forehead and sides of my face. I do use gel to stick my fringe up! It is very painful and lumpy under the skin. Please help!

AcneMagazine response :

Hello Chris. You had left a comment on AcneMagazine.com about how you have received a cream from a dermatologist, or Doctor, for your acne. You may want to ask your parents to question the Dr. about different, more nondrying and irritating creams, or perhaps pursue some sort of oral medication for your acne if it is too bad. Just a tip about your diet also, is that your diet may be affecting your skin. If you consume excessive sugar in your diet, this can very well aggravate the underlying causes of acne.Â

Your age also is a reason you are probably breaking out, since this is a time when certain hormones become unstable, so this is why you could possibly ask about alternative treatments from your doctor. Another little tip is to try drinking your water with fresh squeezed lemon juice, as this helps to create a less acid environment for your skin, and many people (including me), think it helps their skin to stay clearer. Caffeine and other stimulants are other aggravating factors to acne.Â

It is also not good to overdry the skin, as this can actually further aggravate acne, and cause further breakouts because it actually makes the skin produce MORE oil (sebum), and this leads to more clogged pores, and you guessed it, more breakouts. This is why I think you should try another spot acne treatment cream that is less drying. I hope this helps you a bit! Thanks for visiting AcneMagazine, and be sure to visit us often for new tips, and you can also browse the site for product recommendations if you wish.Â
